Peer Educator, Teen Programming

Teen Programming at PPT provides sexual health information to GTA teens through the operation of Teen Health Source, a peer-based information service. Teen Health Source also runs a sexual health website, teenhealthsource.com. Volunteers with Teen Programming are provided with comprehensive training to equip them with the skills to create new sexual health resources for teenhealthsource.com, with the support and guidance of staff and other volunteers.

Agency Description: Planned Parenthood Toronto is a community health centre that provides primary health clinical services to youth 13 to 29 years as well as education, outreach, training and research for Toronto’s youth communities.

Program Description: Teen Programming at PPT provides sexual health information to GTA teens through the operation of Teen Health Source, a peer-based information service. Teen Health Source also runs a sexual health website, teenhealthsource.com.

Roles Description: Volunteers with Teen Programming are provided with comprehensive training to equip them with the skills to create new sexual health resources for teenhealthsource.com, with the support and guidance of staff and other volunteers. This is a great opportunity if you’re looking for experience in writing, information design, or public health education! Volunteers will also learn how to respond to sexual and reproductive health information requests from youth on the info line (via text, email, or online chat).

Eligibility: This volunteer opportunity is open to all youth who are between the ages of 16 and 19.

Training Dates/Times: Mandatory Trainings will take place from 6-8pm on Wednesdays and 10am to 6pm on one Saturday through November with the following proposed schedule:

• Wednesday November 6th
• Wednesday November 13th
• Wednesday November 20th
• Wednesday November 27th
• Saturday November 30th

Volunteers will also do a 2-hour shift each week on the information lines, answering questions by text, email, or online chat. Possible shift times are:

Monday-Thursday: 4:00-6:00pm / 6:00-8:00pm
Saturday: 12:00-2:00pm / 2:00-4:00pm

Altogether, this volunteer commitment runs from November 2024 through November 2025. Volunteers who complete training receive a $10 honoraria per session (5 training shifts), as well as a maximum of 50 volunteer hours. Food and TTC tokens will be provided for our in-person training session on the final Saturday.

This is currently a remote volunteer opportunity, with the option to shift to in-person shifts. Meetings will be held over Zoom. If volunteers do not have the necessary technology or software to participate, Planned Parenthood Toronto may be able to provide it.
