Book A TEACH Workshop

These workshops provide participants with an introduction to sexual orientation, gender identity and the experiences of 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Through activities and discussions on topics including identity terminology, stereotypes, oppression, allyship, and personal stories, participants will be encouraged to think critically about the issues faced by 2SLGBTQ+ youth and how to challenge homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in their communities.

This workshop specifically explores concepts related to gender identity. Participants will discuss how we learn about gender and strategies for challenging sexism and transphobia and how to support trans individuals and communities.

These workshops are designed to support youth who are part of school or community groups and clubs, such as gay-straight alliances or gender and sexuality alliances (GSAs) or similar equity clubs. Through discussions about what leadership looks like in their schools and communities and how to work in allyship with 2SLGBTQ+ communities, participants will begin to explore how they can act as leaders in their schools and communities in creating safer spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ youth.

These workshops encourage participants to think critically about what makes a family, how we learn about family, and how we form family. Participants will be given the opportunity to talk about concepts like chosen family and how to create spaces where all different types of families are seen and welcome.

These workshops are designed to support service providers working with 2SLGBTQ+ youth, including but not limited to teachers, social workers, child and youth workers, and those in post-secondary programs in these fields. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on and discuss how to best support 2SLGBTQ+ youth and how to create environments where they are safe, centred and validated.
