Be the person your peers can turn to with sexual health questions
Eager to learn more about sexual health? Want to support when folks need to talk about birth control, sexually transmitted infections, pleasure, or pregnancy? Volunteer with PPT’s Health Services Peer Educators (in-clinic volunteers).
What would you do?
You’d talk to clients one-on-one (over the phone, in person, or over a video call) about what STIs a general test tests for, the differences between using a birth control pill and an IUD, what’s involved in a medical abortion, and much more. You’d do pregnancy tests and arrange funding paperwork for clients without health insurance. You’d answer questions about sexual health, pleasure and relationships, and give people a supportive space to talk when they need to. When there are no clients around, you might photocopy factsheets or otherwise help out in the office. Once you were trained, you’d help show other volunteers how it’s done.
Where is it?
Health services volunteers do shifts at PPT, at 36B Prince Arthur Ave.
No experience needed
Open to youth of all genders between the ages of 18 and 29.
We especially encourage applications from youth whose lives have been impacted by sexual health matters, youth who’ve experienced barriers to health care, youth who’ve experienced migration, Indigenous youth, racialized youth, and 2SLGBTQIA youth.
We’re looking for folks who:
- are into supporting choice and helping youth make their own decisions about their lives
- are interested in talking and learning about sexuality and sexual health
- can come to the trainings in August (see dates below)
- can commit to a three-hour volunteer shift every week for a whole year, from January 2025 to December 2025
If we pick you, you need to complete a criminal record check to work in the clinic, but the results would only affect you being able to volunteer if it showed something that was relevant to the role.
Training dates and shift times
Please check that you’ll be available for all the training dates and at least 2 ongoing volunteer shift options for the year of January 2025 to December 2025. (They don’t have to be the same shifts each week, but you’d need to give availability for at least 2 shifts each week so we can schedule you for 1 shift each week even if your dates overlap with someone else’s):
