Young Men and Masculine Youth Project – Youth Advisory Committee

Planned Parenthood Toronto, with the support of Toronto Urban Health Fund, is seeking volunteers for a Youth Advisory Committee that will help to develop drop-in shape and deliver a new drop-in program for other young men and masculine youth.

As a volunteer, you’ll meet new people and gain experience in facilitation + resource development. Participants will receive training, honoraria and food for their time and effort; minimum commitment for this project is one year. We particularly welcome BIPOC men/masc folx who are feeling disconnected from community building opportunities.

Position Title

Peer Volunteer

Agency Description

Planned Parenthood Toronto is a fully accredited community health centre that provides primary health care services to youth ages 13 to 29 as well as health promotion programming, education, training and research to improve the health and well-being of Toronto’s diverse communities.

Program Description

This is a 3-year peer-based educational project that includes youth peer volunteers (ages 16-26) who are interested in developing leadership skills around sexual health and relationships. Peer volunteers will receive free training, food, tokens, honoraria, and the opportunity to create and facilitate a drop-in and create virtual resources to share in our communities.

Eligibility

This volunteer opportunity is open to ALL young men and masculine identified youth between the ages of 16-26 who are interested in exploring sexual health, relationships, masculinity, and developing digital media skills.

Training

Volunteers must be available for 10 training sessions in winter 2020 (Dates TBD based on volunteer schedules)

Training topics include:

  • HIV: Prevention, Testing and Stigma
  • Healthy Sexuality
  • Anti-Homophobia/Anti-Transphobia
  • Building Healthier Relationships
  • Safer Sex Practices
  • Peer Education and Facilitation
  • Communication and Leadership

Commitment

Volunteers are requested to make a minimum one year commitment to the project, including the training period. This commitment is flexible according to youth and program needs.
